On your phone you open Google AI Mode through the AI tab above the search results, or directly through the AI icon in the search bar of the Google app. That works on iPhone and Android, in the app and in the browser. You find your earlier AI conversations through your search history. This article walks through the steps per situation.
Opening AI Mode in the Google app
The fastest route sits in the Google app itself: below the search bar (or at the top of the results after a search) you find the "AI Mode" tab. Tap it and you can ask follow-up questions like in a chatbot. Newer versions of the app also show an AI icon directly in the search bar that starts AI Mode straight away. Not seeing the tab? Update the Google app first; the details are in how to turn on Google AI Mode.
Opening AI Mode in your phone's browser
Search through google.com in Chrome or Safari and tap the "AI Mode" tab above the results, in the same row as Images and News. On smaller screens it sometimes hides behind "More". You do not need to be signed in, but without a Google account your conversation is not saved.
Finding your earlier AI conversations on your phone
Many people search "where is my AI history on my phone". The answer: your AI conversations are not in a separate app but in your Google search history. In the Google app, tap your profile picture and choose Search history; your AI Mode conversations sit there between your regular searches. The full explanation, desktop included, is in how to find your Google AI Mode history.
Managing or avoiding AI answers
Want to clean up your AI conversations? You delete them through that same search history; the steps are in how to delete your AI Mode history. And if you would rather see fewer AI answers on your phone, use the Web filter above the search results; all options are in how to turn off Google AI Overviews.
For business owners: this is how your customers search
AI Mode on mobile is not just convenient for you: it is how a growing share of your customers searches. Open it and ask the question your customers should find you with; what the AI answers and who gets cited is your new competitive field. The free SEO scan shows where your website stands today.

Yes, it works the same way: through the Google app or through google.com in the browser. The only differences are where the app comes from (App Store or Play Store) and that the AI icon in the search bar can vary per version. Availability depends on your language and region settings.
