How to delete your Google AI Mode history (and what Google keeps)

Deleting a single AI Mode conversation, clearing everything at once, or letting Google auto-delete on a schedule: the three routes explained, plus what deleting does and does not remove.

You can delete your Google AI Mode history in three ways: remove a single conversation from the history panel, clear everything at once via your Google activity settings, or set an auto-delete schedule so older conversations disappear on their own. This guide walks through each route and explains what deleting does and does not remove.

First: where does your AI Mode history live?

Google saves your AI Mode conversations alongside your other search activity, tied to the Google account you were signed in with. If you have not found the history panel yet, read where to find your Google AI Mode history first; deleting starts from the same place as viewing.

      Delete a single conversation

Open the AI Mode history panel, find the conversation you want to remove and use the delete option next to it. This removes that conversation from your history without touching the rest. Useful when you want to keep your history but drop one specific chat.

Clear your entire AI Mode history

Your AI Mode conversations are part of your Google account activity. Go to your Google account's activity controls (myactivity.google.com), filter or search for your AI Mode and Search activity, and delete it for a chosen period: the last hour, the last day, a custom range or all time. This is the fastest way to start clean.

      Set up auto-delete

In the same activity settings you can set an auto-delete schedule for your search and AI activity. Google then removes anything older than the window you choose. Set it once and your history stays trimmed without thinking about it again; the trade-off is that you lose the ability to revisit older conversations.

What deleting does and does not do

      • It removes the conversations from your account history. You will no longer see or continue them.
      • It does not undo personalisation instantly. Google may take some time to process deletions across its systems.
      • It does not affect other people's results. Your history only shapes your own experience.
      • Signed out means nothing to delete. If you used AI Mode without signing in, there is no account history in the first place.

Why this matters more than it seems

AI Mode conversations are longer and more personal than classic search queries: people describe their situation, budget and doubts in full sentences. That makes the history more sensitive than a list of keywords, and worth managing deliberately, whether that means keeping it for convenience or clearing it for privacy.

How do I delete my Google AI Mode history?

Delete a single conversation from the AI Mode history panel, or clear everything via your Google account's activity settings at myactivity.google.com, where you can delete by period or set an auto-delete schedule.

Can I stop Google from saving my AI Mode conversations?

You can set auto-delete so conversations are removed automatically after a period you choose, or use AI Mode while signed out, in which case there is no account history. Pausing your search activity in your Google account settings also stops new history from being saved.

Does deleting my AI history change my search results?

Over time, yes: your history feeds personalisation, so removing it reduces how much past conversations shape new answers. The effect is not instant, as deletions take time to process across Google's systems.
